ADRIAN GOMIS EXPOSITO. Hello Michell, how wonderful it is to chat with you! To start this interview, I would like to know more about your story. What was it like growing up in Sydney, Australia?

MITCHELL WICK. Sydney is such a beautiful and safe city. I am very fortunate to have grown up there, surrounded by amazing beaches and countryside; we are spoilt for choice! I spent plenty of my childhood playing football (soccer) with friends or on the water, water skiing or surfing!

A.G.E. Can you tell us about your journey working as a model and DJ and how you got started in these fields? What motivated you to pursue these two careers at the same time?

M.W. I was a telecommunications technician for 7 years straight out of school in Sydney before going on a trip to Miami which was to change my life! I was scouted at Ultra Music Festival, which at the time I was a little sick of my job, so I thought, why not give it a shot, it turned out much better than expected!

A.G.E. You've been modelling internationally for over 8 years, working with prominent brands and in various markets like London, New York, Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, and Miami. Could you share some of your most memorable experiences or achievements during this time?

M.W. I’ve been very fortunate with this job, taking me all across the world and meeting amazing people. But a few highlights would be shooting the Guess global campaign in Los Angeles, one of my dream brands to work for; shooting with Lindsay Lohan in Milan, a wild experience, one I’ll never forget; working for a brand new resort in the Maldives for a week was, an absolute paradise and just made me realize just how lucky I am to do what I do!

A.G.E. It's impressive that you have diverse passions such as music, surfing, hiking, football, travel, and spending time with loved ones. Knowing how demanding the modelling industry and nightlife can be, I wonder how you manage to balance your career and personal interests effectively.

M.W. I’ve always been very self-motivated and driven. I’m one of those people who needs to be good at everything or at least competent. I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing, as I always take on too much and hate to let anyone down. The balance between DJing and modelling is quite tricky, that’s for sure, but I just promise myself if I have a big night or weekend DJing event that I have to balance it out with intense training and eating well! For me, it’s all about finding this balance that will allow me to do both for as long as the demand is there!
A.G.E. As a DJ, what style of music do you specialize in, and what do you enjoy most about being a DJ? What’s a widespread misconception about DJs?

M.W. I play mostly house music, usually deeper and more melodic sounds in my sets. Nothing too commercial or sing-along! DJing is my absolute love in life. I listen to music all day, every day. Even when I was in school, I was always bringing new music into the class and showing people new artists before they blew up. It was just something I loved from a young age and somehow was able to turn it into a career! I’m so lucky to do what I love, and it works so well with modelling, they complement each other!

A.G.E. Travelling seems to be an integral part of your life. How has your love for adventure and exploring new places influenced your work?

M.W. My love for travel started the same year I was scouted in Miami. I was doing a 6-month trip with my Australian mates, road-tripping around the USA, then down to Central and South America, ending up in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup. It was a trip of a lifetime and funny enough, it kicked this whole thing off! Now I’m just spoiled being able to travel with my DJing and modeling work to many amazing places. The next stop is sailing around Indonesia at the end of October. A dream!

A.G.E. With your experiences in some of the biggest fashion capitals, how have these different markets shaped your approach to modelling and DJing?

M.W. Having worked in the biggest cities for modelling has definitely helped shape the person I am now. Modelling isn’t easy, and there are a lot of ups and downs associated with the job. I’ve learned to just be the best I can be and stop worrying about things that are out of my control. This has been a huge help in progressing in both the modelling and DJing industries, as I believe this is the biggest issue most people find and just end up stuck and overwhelmed.

A.G.E. Family and friends are essential to you, and you value quality time with them. How do you ensure you maintain these connections while pursuing a busy career that often involves being away from home?

M.W. Family is everything! When I’m home in Sydney, I catch up with them every Wednesday for dinner at my Nan's house, it’s a tradition. I love being so close to my family, they are my biggest supporters.
A.G.E. You shot an incredible story with Sasha Olsen for Yummy 7. How did you feel throughout the shooting and how do you feel about nudity?

M.W. Sasha was amazing to work with. He’s so nice and laid back to shoot with, making me feel very comfortable throughout the shoot. I don’t shoot nude with many photographers, so it’s always challenging at the start to get the understanding and trust, but I felt that straight away with Sasha and we got some amazing shots. Couldn’t be happier!

A.G.E. What’s the first thing you think about when you hear the word yummy?

M.W. Food! But now I’m in the magazine, it’s taken a whole new meaning!

A.G.E. Your physique is stunning. Do you follow a strict workout routine and diet? Walk us through your routines and tricks to look incredibly good as you do.

M.W. People think I just have great genetics and I’m so blessed and so on, but the truth is that I’ve worked my ass off for years and years. I push myself consistently and always show up even when I’m tired, hungover, or unmotivated, and I think that’s the biggest part of staying in shape and being consistent. Things don’t happen overnight, there are no secrets, it’s just hard work and dedication.

A.G.E. We can’t forget to mention the sexy look you have when looking straight at the camera and your attitude when posing. For you, what’s the key to being sexy? When do you feel the sexiest and how does that make you feel?

M.W. God, that’s hard to explain! I think for me it’s just letting everything go and just forgetting anyone is there, even the photographer. If you put your mind into a state where you’re creating your own story or scenario, then that’s when you will fully relax and be able to show all kinds of emotions and get creative with poses. Sometimes I even surprise myself with some of the stuff I come up with. It’s all part of the fun! I guess that’s it, just have fun with it and let yourself go.
A.G.E. What’s your bed routine like? How do you sleep a normal day compared to when you finish a DJ session, what do you wear to bed, and what’s your ritual before getting to sleep? What could we find on your bedside table?

M.W. A normal day is very routine and organized: shower, skincare, night tea, water beside the bed. After a DJ gig, it’s a free for all! I do always shower, though, that’s a must. After that, it’s pretty much lights out!

A.G.E. Lastly, which is the most relevant lesson life has taught you? What advice would you give to young people?

M.W. Do what makes you happy, not anyone else. Life and people in your life will pull you in every direction, telling you what you should or shouldn’t be doing. But at the end of the day, we are here on this earth for a very short time, so take a chance, like I did, and live in the moment! No regrets!
